Lotería Cards: A Mexican Card Game
A 30-day, 30 minutes a-day project aimed to practice a design skill, meant for building a creative habit by making a cohesive body of work. For my project, I designed a set of 16 cards inspired by the Mexican bingo-like game Lotería, tying in the things I find representative of my experience being Mexican. In order to lay out the project, I created 4 categories of illustrations I would do: plants, people, traditional objects, food.

The Process
To start off, I defined the contents of my cards, and got to doing some rough sketches. After sketching, I went to Adobe Illustrator and starting using the pen tool. Before this project, I had not had much experience using the pen tool, which was a skill I was able to improve throughout the course of the project. The process for one card looked like this...
Final Product
Bringing it all together, I layed out my set of 16 cards onto a Lotería sheet, adding simple typography inspired by the many Lotería games I have played throughout my life.
In March of 2024, this piece was featured in a design exhibit in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
